With this painting I wanted to explore belongingness and its relationship with our sense of security and familiarity, while evoking the human need for stability.
When it comes to colour I like to study as much theory as possible as well as intuition.
For this painting in particular I researched what home means and which places we call home.
I usually think about colours very emotionally, I then research their meaning and how can I use them to evoke emotional responses.
Green and red make the ideal contrast. Green recalls nature, a particular tree that was near my house in Italy. I feel nature is home.
Burgundy recalls my mother’s lipstick. Burgundy also increases the heart rate but green creates harmony and relaxation.
Gold illuminates and uplifts, it’s also the colour of the hoops I’ve always wore.
Silver, it’s calm and reflects all energy as well colours around it. Reminds me of the sea.
I wanted to evoke delicate yet deep emotional responses using resin, iridescent acrylics and silicone oil.
