With gender-based violence, victims are often blamed. "But how were you dressed?" "Yes, but she provoked it." The title is a phrase said by a man: "With such a pretty face you might be throwing acid, cover yourself." All my frustration, my pain and my anger are represented by fluid painting and action painting with specific colors used to convey emotions and feelings, moved on the canvas by my emotions. Iridescent colors that change shades depending on the light to which they are exposed, as emotions change in intensity with the injustices suffered by women. All this is accompanied by a poem.

This painting is a statement piece, highly detailed and curated. I also applied little pieces of glass and used iridescent acrylics. This painting is about reclaiming my freedom as a woman, against gender based violence.

Lyrics:

Sister's bleeding

deep beneath lawful crimes

My body at the mercy of men who walk freely at night

Wandering the streets I can’t find peace

Growing eyes behind my back to protect

What is left of me

when they decide

it’s time

But today, I won’t put a curfew on my freedom

today I will walk and I won’t hide

I might be afraid to walk alone at night

with their eyes staring at my thighs

But I won’t compromise my peace of mind
